Anxiety, Depression, Flashbacks, Hyper-vigilance and Disassociation

Past traumas and everyday stresses can feel overwhelming. Anxiety, depression, flashbacks, hyper-vigilance and disassociation or numbing can all be instinctive responses to difficult experiences we have lived through. These are physiological responses indicating that we may need to explore what is underlying them so we can gain understanding. Through understanding and a deepened self-awareness, there can be choice to explore the ability for change.

If you can find the courage to share your experiences with me, these can all be helped with professional counselling alongside some empathetic, well-researched psychological education on strategies for grounding and stabilisation. "Trauma is not what happens to us, but what we hold inside in the absence of an empathetic witness." Peter Levine. I want to listen, I want to witness, I want to support.

"Trauma affects the entire human organism - body, mind and brain. In post traumatic stress disorder, the body continues to defend against a threat that belongs in the past." Bessel Van Der Kolt.
